In this KMTS Connections interview, Ali Naaseh-Shahry, the Development Director at YouthZone, and Pete Durrance, the Restorative Justice Facilitator, discuss the history, mission, and programs of YouthZone. YouthZone focuses on creating positive outcomes for youth and their communities through restorative justice, court diversion, and substance use education.
Most of the organization’s work involves court-referred programs for young offenders, giving them a second chance through participation in YouthZone’s services. These services help young people avoid formal charges by completing a program focused on accountability, growth, and harm reduction. In addition to court-referred youth, YouthZone also assists non-court-referred individuals and families seeking support.
Restorative justice, which emphasizes repairing harm and bringing affected parties together, is a key aspect of their work.
